What sean ingle very significantly forgets, is the escapist nature of fandom. Only people like arseblogger and AVFC blog get tos upport a club for a living. the rest of us do it to get AWAY from our living or to give greater meaning to it. As much as we'll bitch about the money well still shell out, because bloody hell man, football is a fuck lot more enthralling than any television show ive ever seen. It's true, we ARE blindly loyal and we ARE in a rational sense idiots, but what the fuck do I care? Even if I've spent more than I have in a bar, watching the gunners level against Villa in the final minute, the sheer thrill and relief of the ball rolling in is irreplacable. And you know what, in a world as 'globalised' and as corporate and impersonal as ours, I am very very proud to be a part of a blindly loyal group, the same way I am grateful I have a lover I'm just as blindly loyal to. Try telling a contruction worker scouse he's an idiot for yelling his heart out at anfield, instead of staying home investing in mutual funds...!
